Scout Out

Keeping contractors on the job site, not behind a desk.

Scout Out is the all-in-one AI-powered project management platform built for residential contractors. Today, contractors run complex businesses on a patchwork of tools that were never designed for construction — estimates in spreadsheets, plans in email, proposals copy-pasted from old Word docs, photos scattered across phones. Nothing talks to anything else, and the admin work never stops. Scout Out replaces that patchwork with a single platform that manages the full lifecycle of a construction job, from first estimate to final invoice. Contractors upload plans, photos, or a project description, and Scout Out's AI instantly generates structured takeoffs, scoped estimates, and professional proposals — in minutes, not hours. From there, every customer record, document, permit, photo, change order, and conversation lives in one place, organized around the job. The result: contractors spend less time buried in admin and more time building. They bid faster, manage jobs with less chaos, and close projects cleanly — without duct-taping five tools together to do it. We're starting in Los Angeles, working closely with residential remodelers and contractors — including those managing post-fire rebuilds following the Palisades and Eaton fires.

Verdict

High Signal
Market Opportunity
Residential construction is a massive, fragmented, notoriously under-digitized market. US residential remodeling alone is $500B+. ICP is clear (residential remodelers/contractors) with a focused geographic beachhead (Los Angeles, post-fire rebuild demand). B2B SaaS with obvious monetization via subscription and/or per-project fees.
Medium Signal
Founder Signal
Nolan Rossi is a May 2025 UC Berkeley grad (EECS + Business + Astrophysics under MET program) — effectively a recent grad with internship-level experience only. Work history is solid for his age: SWE intern at AWS Personalize AI team (2024), PM intern at Sphere (2024), SWE intern at Pillar (2023). No prior exits, no senior engineering or construction industry background. No co-founder is listed, making this a solo-founder situation with limited real-world operational depth.
Low Signal
Competition
The construction PM and estimating software space is crowded with established players: Procore, Buildertrend, CoConstruct (now Buildertrend), Houzz Pro, JobNimbus, and Housecall Pro all target residential contractors. AI-native entrants like Togal.ai (AI takeoffs) and FieldPulse are also in this space. Differentiation as 'AI-first, all-in-one for residential' is real but not a strong moat against well-funded incumbents who can bolt on AI.
Medium Signal
Product
Landing page describes a coherent full-lifecycle platform (estimates, proposals, project management, invoicing) with AI-generated takeoffs from plans/photos. Claims to be working with LA-area residential contractors on post-fire rebuilds, which is a real use case. No named customers, pricing page, live demo, or specific revenue/usage metrics visible — just a description and a stated GMV figure ($XXM) which is redacted/placeholder.
OverallC Tier

Scout Out is tackling a real, large, underserved market with a coherent product vision, and the post-LA-fire rebuild angle is a timely wedge. However, the founding team is a single recent grad (May 2025) with internship experience only — no construction domain expertise, no co-founder, and no prior company-building track record. The competition in construction SaaS is fierce with entrenched players (Procore, Buildertrend) and multiple AI-native upstarts already funded. The $XXM GMV claim in the LinkedIn profile is a placeholder, not a verified traction signal. This needs a technical co-founder with construction/real-world ops experience and meaningful customer logos before it earns a higher rating.
